The Journey to the Symbiocene

Glenn Albrecht has written about the Symbiocene (‘Earth Emotions’), an era where humans live in symbiosis with planet earth. Symbiocene is one of the 'new words for a new world'. These words help us to communicate about the feelings we have, about what is happening, and the vision of a co-created future way of viable human living. Glenn also brings to the fore a secular spirituality as part of our journey and being.

The journey is underway from the Anthropocene to the Symbiocene.

Being able to reach this destination is not a certainty!

We are indeed fortunate to have Glenn speak on the vision of the Symbiocene and also secular spirituality.

How can we take this journey being well equipped with; a vision, ways to navigate our emotions, build our capabilities, keep energised and joyful, and travel with a community?

This workshop engages with an approach to this journey with a spiritual and environmental practice.

Spiritual; refers to the spiritual that you bring with you. For a journey with this uncertainty, the spiritual provides a reliable place to be.

Environmental; encompasses the external and internal environments. About our emotional, physical and mental relationship with environment. (Glenn will no doubt call to our attention replacing the word environment with symbioment).

Practice; what we do daily. The opportunities in our circle of influence.

This approach is a framework for navigating the journey.

Elements of the approach include:
- Have a clarity about the emotions that come from seeing the impact of the Anthropocene, and working to achieve a reconciliation with the solastalgia we may feel.

- hold a vision of human symbiotic living
- Keep the pathway clear, and foster engagement, confidence and clarity in undertaking this journey.
- Bring the joy in making the journey and taste the experience of beauty and art along the way.
- And to do this as a community of practice with the associated support and momentum.

The workshop
The workshop is for 1.5 hours. It will be held online via zoom.

And would include music, Glenn presenting the substance of the earth emotions, hands on earth art, and breakout discussion rooms. After discussion there would be Q&A. An important feature is to use the chat so participants can share their responses to the material.

Earth Art allows our emotion, body and intuition to express. We come to know in a different way, not just words and thinking. It can shift our demeanour to embody the heart of Symbiocene.

Background
The Spiritual and Environmental Preservation Practice (SEPP), a community of practice, was started in 2019 following on from community of practice events at Nan Tien Institute. The program has run 15 Nan Tien 2030 Campaign monthly workshops over 2020 and 2021. These community gatherings have featured expert speakers, music and community dialog on various themes and topics. SEPP also runs study groups to allow participants to take a more in depth journey with the practice.

The workshops are provided at no charge.
