Kitchen Takeover: Joyeux Noël Secret Supper
Event description
Joyeux Noël
Say au revoir to an average Christmas dinner and bonjour to a festive French feast. Fresh off the back of winning two NZ Event Awards, including Best Arts and Culture Event, Kitchen Takeover is back to light up your tastebuds like the Tour De Eiffel at night, with our latest pop-up restaurant experience, Joyeux Noël. From Thursday 10 November to Friday 16 December, our award winning chefs will create a five course degustation dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 7-11pm, at a Tauranga location as secret as Papa Noël’s grotto. Oh la la!
Culinary creatives Shane Yardley and Ian Harrison will transport you to the ‘City of Lights’ for platefuls of palate-popping Parisian perfection. Trained by the greats of French cooking, Alain Ducasse and Marco Pierre White, they will combine their incredible training with new ingredients and techniques. Our delectable dining options are suitable for vegetarians, gluten free, pescatarians and plant based gourmands. Nom nom!
Because Noël is a time for giving, and Kitchen Takeover is known for our love of bringing the community together, we are asking diners to bring a secret Santa foodie gift that is either brewed, baked, picked, pickled, purchased, preserved or anything in between. These will be exchanged at the secret supper so please remember so no one misses out.

Who is it for?
Wild-at-heart foodies on the hunt for a ‘big city’ style food adventure. Think the secrecy of an East London supper club mixed with the gastronomy of a top Melbourne laneway eatery and the creativity of a Copenhagen restaurant.
What will you eat?
On your plate will be all the classic foods - meat, fish, dairy and sugar. We have alternative gluten free, pescatarian, no fish, no nuts and plant based menus (which generally covers all the bases) but cannot cover for other specific dietary requirements.
Who is designing the mouth watering menu?
Shane Yardley is a chef with platefuls of experience. Having spent the first part of his career training in some of the world’s most renowned restaurants including the Sanderson and Bistro Largo, he did a long stint as Simon Gault’s right hand man. Career highlights include Head Chef of Euro, Fish, and a guest judge on Masterchef. Joyeux Noël will also see guest chef Ian Harrison in the kitchen for the first time. Having cooked for the likes of Gordon Ramsey, Marco Pierre White and Heston Blumenthal, diners are in for a treat.
How does it work?
The location is revealed two hours prior by text and email. The secret location will be within 5 minutes of Tauranga CBD. The set menu will be announced when you arrive. You can choose to be seated communally to meet your undiscovered foodie friends or on your own table.
What should I wear?
The most important question! Dress for a festive, fancy French feast. We do encourage elaborate dress - it's the silly season after all!
Where and when will it be?
A secret location in Tauranga within 5 minutes of Tauranga CBD.
Will there be drinks available to buy during the evening?
Yes, we will offer a curated selection of beers, wines and soft drinks. We will also also offer a 4 glass drinks pairing perfectly matched to the degustation, available to purchase on the night.
What happens if the event is unable to go ahead due to COVID-19?
We will postpone it to a later date. If you are unable to make this date we will offer an alternative date or a refund.
