So...what kinds of songs do we sing?

JVC Director Marv Zauderer (see bio below) teaches the most amazing songs by the most amazing community songwriters from around the world!
We sing short-form, non-religious, easy-to-learn songs mostly sourced from the modern community singing movement -- unison songs, chants, rounds, layer songs, and 2-, 3-, and 4-part harmony songs. Songs that take parts of 2-3 evenings to learn, like this one, this one, and this one, and also quick-to-learn songs, like this one, this one, and this one.
Songs are selected for their ability to rejuvenate, soothe, uplift and inspire! Songs of belonging, songs of healing, songs of hope, songs of joy.

The details:

We're in our usual big Duncan Hall auditorium space at the church in San Anselmo, across the courtyard from the sanctuary, Wednesday evenings, 7:00-8:30 (to 9:00 on Jan. 14), Jan. 14 - Feb. 17 (except Tues 2/17 instead of Weds 2/18), plus the Big Sing in Duncan Hall with Guest Songleader Maggie Wheeler on Saturday, February 21st 4:00-6:00. We may have some fans/doors/windows open for airflow and the massive heating system to keep us warm if needed. We are SO lucky to have the amazing Patti Powell (pictured; see bio below) joining Marv as Guest Songleader at a special open-to-the-community Opening Night of the Joyful Voices Chorus on Wednesday, Jan. 14th, 7:00-9:00! (Note extended time.)
Note that our special evening with Patti on 1/14 is included in choir members' fee; for non-choir members, the ticket price is $20 Standard/$25 Supporting/$15 Supported. If you buy a ticket to sing with Patti then decide to join the choir, you'll get credit towards your choir membership fee from your Patti ticket.
Sliding scale fee for the 7-week series including our Patti evening and the Big Sing with Maggie Wheeler: $130-$185 (Standard fee: $140). Lower amounts make the choir more accessible to more people, higher amounts support folks who need a lower fee at this time, you choose the fee that feels affordable and generous. Your payment is for the entire series, regardless of attendance. Membership closes at the beginning of choir, Wednesday, Jan. 28th!
Early Bird Discount if you register for the choir by Friday, January 2nd at midnite: $115 (includes the Big Sing --such a deal!).
Kids under 18 are FREE with accompanying adult.
And, if you haven't sung in the choir before, feel free to try the choir one night FREE, only on Jan. 21st!
Community members who don't want to join the choir, but do want to attend our evening with Sarina and/or the Big Sing, can buy tickets just for those. Tickets are available at the door until/unless the event is sold out (and note the Big Sing may definitely sell out.)

Maggie Wheeler was born and raised in New York City.

Her earliest professional work was as a voice over artist doing multiple radio spots for clients such as CBS records and MTV .

In the mid 80's Maggie landed a role in the ensemble cast of The New Show, a prime time sketch comedy show for NBC, directed by Lorne Michaels of SNL.

In the years that followed Maggie went on to work as a voice over artist for the great animation company Rankin / Bass. Maggie voiced all the female characters on the super hero cartoon, Silverhawks as as well as voicing multiple characters of every gender on the series The Comic Strip.

She went on to make the movie New Year's Day, shot in NYC with independent film director Henry Jaglom. Maggie won the Best Actress Award at the Cinetex Comedy Festival in Las Vegas for her performance. The film was also chosen to represent the U.S. at the Venice Film Festival. As a result Maggie had the great honor of being a guest on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

After appearing in many television shows including L.A. Law, Doogie Howser, M.D, Dream On, Seinfeld & Ellen , Maggie landed the role of Janice on Friends for which she is best known.

What started out as a guest spot on a single episode turned into a ten season recurring role that has made its way into television history. Simultaneously she was filming episodes in another recurring role on the CBS hit Everybody Loves Raymond as Linda Gruenfelder.

Maggie has appeared in numerous television shows including, Shameless, Maron, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Californication, Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, Will & Grace, The X-Files, How I Met Your Mother, Without A Trace, Friday Night LIghts, Disney's Shake It up, The Closer and many more .

Maggie also happily appeared covered in chocolate & feathers as Camp counselor Marva Junior in Disney’s remake of The Parent Trap.

Animation is Maggie’s first love and she has voiced many animated characters. You can hear her on Dreamworks' Captain Underpants, The Addams Family, FX's Sterling Archer, Nick at Nite’s Glenn Martin DDS , Disney’s Barbie of Swan Lake and Rankin / Bass Silver Hawks. She has also been heard on The Justice League, Batman, Lilo & Stitch and as several hopped up chickens in Dr. Doolittle 3.

In 2023 Maggie Wheeler self published her first children's book Ebeneezer Finds A Reason, a whimsical tale about a young shrew with a terrible sneezing problem. This story will delight readers from 3 - 103! The book contains beautiful illustrations full of hidden surprises by artist M.Kyle Hollingsworth. The book also includes a QR code to an audio book recording by Maggie Wheeler, complete with an original song.

Alongside her acting career Maggie has been the director of the Golden Bridge Community Choir in Hollywood. Maggie directed the intergenerational 100-voice Golden Bridge Community Choir in Hollywood for 17 years and during recent years continued the Golden Bridge Choir online producing virtual concerts and videos as well as hosting the weekly online community gathering, “Together In Song”, bringing together over 4000 people from around the world to join in the healing power of singing. It is her belief that through the creation of song, harmony and rhythm communities are formed and participants become inspired, energized, and connected to one another. Maggie also travels to retreat centers, universities, communities and schools to teach her a cappella vocal workshop "Singing In The Stream”, offering the unique experience of creating music from around the world in multiple harmony parts without the use of sheet music. She teaches in the oral tradition and does so in a dynamic way that allows for singers of all levels, beginners included to accomplish great things!

Marv Zauderer (he/they) leads the Joyful Voices Chorus community choir and All In Song Circle on unceded Coast Miwok land in Marin County, CA. He loves the magic of singing together, magic that can connect us deeply and uniquely with each other and exquisitely bridge so many divides in this more-than-human world. He is passionate about co-creating spaces for singing that are safe, welcoming, and easy for anyone to join in and feel alive, well held, connected, and uplifted. He is also a psychotherapist in private practice in Marin and on Zoom with clients throughout California, Arizona, and Florida, and an executive coach working with for-profit and non-profit executives worldwide.
