Keynote speaker: Emmanuel Peni, Coordinator of Project Sepik, PNG
This is a rare, in-person opportunity to hear from activist leader Emmanuel Peni. Emmanuel is from Korogu on the Sepik River in Papua New Guinea. After years in Port Moresby and abroad, he returned home to work with his people to defend the Sepik River system from the threat of the Frieda River Mine, a giant mining project proposed for the headwaters of the Sepik. Emmanuel is a passionate and eloquent visionary on the power of Indigenous expertise, and his Ted Talk “The Sustainable Brilliance of Indigenous Design” has been viewed over 1 million times.
Emmanuel will be sharing insights from the Save the Sepik campaign so far, what's at stake, and what the campaign hopes to achieve in the future.
