About the Author:

Born and raised in Waco, Texas, Matt Johnson is a fourth generation Texan with deep roots in McLennan and Bosque Counties. He attended Waco Public Schools graduating from Richfield High School in 1982. Matt earned a business degree from Baylor University in 1986 and a law degree from Oklahoma City University in 1990. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Waco-McLennan County Bar Association, the Federalist Society and the Abner V. McCall American Inn of Court. Matt is the recipient of a State Bar of Texas Presidential Commendation and a graduate of the Texas College for Judicial Studies. He has served on the McLennan County Historical Commission and has served as a director of Waco Habitat for Humanity, Heart of Texas Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, Waco Campfire, and the Heart of Texas Regional History Fair. Matt has conducted extensive research into the history of the McLennan County Courthouse and as a result is often referred to as the resident courthouse historian. Matt and his wife, Melissa, have been married for 30 years and have two sons, Matthew (27) and Bennett (25). The Johnsons are members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Waco.
