Julia Farr Centre farewell
Event description
Highgate Park, formerly known as the Julia Farr Centre at the iconic Fullarton site, supported South Australians with disability for more than 140 years.
With the recent announcement of the sale of this site, and proceeds going to support South Australians with disability in the future, a farewell event has been organised to allow those with a connection to the Julia Farr Centre and the Julia Farr legacy, to be in the space one last time.
The site and service has meant different things to the many clients, their families and guardians, staff and volunteers who have had a connection with it. The institutional nature of care that was delivered at the site is no-longer best practice support for people with disability, and it has been closed as a site providing accommodation since 2020.Â
There are different ways to help you say farewell, at this free event in the beautiful garden space on Fisher Street. Bring a picnic rug to enjoy the gardens and a sausage sizzle, view the History Trusts of South Australia's display of items, take a guided tour of Level 5 or have a quiet reflection in the Chapel space.
The event has been set-up to be a positive experience for all and you are welcome to participate in a way that is comfortable for you. Please contact event organisers if you would like to further discuss any aspect of participating in this event.
