Event description

Julia Trintschuk returns to San Francisco after her dazzling debut on our Dynamite Guitars series concert last season and popular appearances on our YouTube channel. Hailed for her “refined and elegant sound” and “seemingly endless technical skill” (Six String Journal), Julia has emerged as one of the most celebrated young classical guitarists on the world stage. A prizewinner of more than 30 international competitions, including first prize at the 2024 Alhambra International Guitar Competition, she has already captivated audiences across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Her concerts are known for their wide-ranging repertoire, effortless virtuosity, and a natural musicality that transcends the instrument.

Alongside her is her teacher and mentor, Joaquín Clerch, the Cuban-born virtuoso described by Eliot Fisk as “certainly one of the leading, if not the leading guitarist of his generation worldwide.” A student of legends such as Leo Brouwer and Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Clerch has forged an international career that uniquely combines performer, composer, and pedagogue. He has appeared on the world’s most prestigious stages, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, and the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, performing as soloist with renowned orchestras from Europe to Latin America. His compositions, published by Schott, and his acclaimed recordings further attest to his wide-ranging impact on the guitar world.

Both artists will perform solo programs in this special evening at St. Mark’s, offering audiences two perspectives on the art of the guitar: the freshness and brilliance of a rising star alongside the mastery and depth of a seasoned virtuoso. It is a rare chance to experience teacher and student, mentor and protégé, each at the height of their powers, an unforgettable night of guitar artistry not to be missed.
