July Bankstown Poetry Slam ft. Ying Chin

Welcome to Australia's largest regular poetry slam! We hope you're ready for another unreal feature artist and some poetry goodness for the next BANKSTOWN POETRY SLAM!

ALSO OUR REGULAR SLAMS ARE NOW FREE!! But you gotta get a ticket to show at the door, so make sure you register!

Anyone can also sign up to perform on the night, and get a chance to win a spot in our Grand Slam! 

This month, we are stoked and honoured to be featuring the incredibly talented and 2023 Grand Slam winner, Ying Chin!

Ying is a poet and harpist who sees the world in music and hope. Her practice is deeply informed by environmental and social justice issues, and her Malaysian-Chinese heritage. She is equal parts obsessed with poetry and music, and one day thought ‘why not have both?!’ *cue Old El Paso music*. The result is a fusion of poetry and music that she creates to make sense of her inner and outer world. She shares this in the hope a listener might hear something that helps with their own journey.

Your free ticket gets you access to the slam, fresh watermelon, world class poetry and some bad dad jokes (Bilal here: I wouldn't say 'bad' so much as they are... an acquired taste), courtesy of our MC Bilal.

🍉 If you are intending to sign up to perform at the slam, please book a ticket and arrive at 6:15 pm to sign up at the door. We generally do not offer free artist tickets but if you you have special circumstances/are experiencing financial difficulty, please get in touch so that we can issue you a free ticket.

🍉 Regular slam rules apply: No age restrictions/ STRICT 3 minute time limit (try to limit poem introductions)/ no props or music/ if you want to sing in your poem (first of all how dare you be so talented) it should be part of your poem not the whole piece/ poetry must be your original work.

🍉 The top 4 scoring artists will be granted a spot at the Grand Slam.

🍉 Please note that signing up does not guarantee a performance spot. We have a lottery system in place whereby we randomly draw names so that it is fair for everyone, given the high sign up numbers!
