PROVOCATEUR: Robyn Backen is a contemporary artist whose work makes connections between art, science and philosophy. Her sound, light works, constructions, and computer-generated systems often examine the cultural context of the spaces they inhabit. Drawing upon more than 20 years of research into technology, materials, and communication, Backen has completed many large public commissions, international shows, and residencies, including most recently in China and Sweden. She is also a recipient of the Australia Council Fellowship.
