JULY: Renaissance Bodice Drafting and Fitting 2-Day Sewing Workshop

Event description

Calling all cottagecore creatives!! 🏹🕯️🎠⚔ We ask you to picture your ideal Ren Faire or fantasy outfit... dream of the fey, the artists, the knights, and YOU, twirling about them in a look that's just right... Now let us guess: it's complete with a perfectly-fitted bodice, isn't it? Come to SCRAP for a 2-day WEEKDAY workshop, where incredible instructor and aficionado Kate will teach you how to create your own perfect pattern for a custom bodice, and then lead you through each step of its creation, including sewing, inserting boning, grommet setting, lacing, and detailing. (Just in time for the second weekend of the Canterbury Renaissance Faire on July 27th and 28th!)

In this class we will take our measurements and using a free generator, draft a classic conical bodice block. From there the instructor will guide students through how to turn that block into a working pattern, create a baste-on lacing strip to save time and materials, sew up and fit a first draft of a lightly boned, Renaissance-stays-inspired bodice, and make alterations to improve and customize the style and fit!

Competent sewists may even start a final bodice by the end of the two-day workshop, but students of all working speeds will walk away with a fitted mockup, and the materials to create a finished bodice for their Canterbury Ren Faire garb, or whatever dress-up they may delight in!

All tools and materials provided. Students are free to bring their own sewing machines, if desired.

Recommended to sewists who feel comfortable operating a sewing machine and have a few projects under their belt. Students are expected to know how to load bobbins, thread machines, troubleshoot jams, and are familiar with terms like "back stitch" and "1/4" seam allowance." Ages 16+.
