Get animated in the July school holidays with GooRoo Animation and the South Australian Museum!

To celebrate Relics: A New World Rises at the South Australian Museum, GooRoo's 2-hour LEGO® Animation workshop gives kids the opportunity to create their very own "Brick Films". They will build a scene and then learn how to bring it to life using the app Stop Motion Studio.

The finished videos will be screened to the group and uploaded to YouTube via the GooRoo Animation Workshops channel to be shared with friends and family.

This is a 2-hour workshop for 7-13 year olds.

Where is the workshop?
Please meet at the signed meeting point in the Main Foyer and we will guide you to our Armoury Gallery where the workshop will be held.

Do I need to stay with my child?
Yes, you will need to stay for the duration of the workshop. Assistance from accompanying adults is usually not necessary but most welcome if you would like to get involved.
Adults do not need to purchase tickets.

Who can participate?
This workshop is aimed at children aged 7 to 13.

Does this workshop have any assumed skills?
This is a beginners' workshop which will introduce the basic concepts of stop-motion animation and get kids of all abilities making their own short films. Experience in animation or film making is not required, however participants will need to be able to operate a touch screen device with some independence.

Does each participant get their own device and make their own film, or do they work in groups?
Participants will usually work together in pairs or groups of 3. If your child comes with siblings or friends, they can work together, or if they come alone they may be asked to work with another participant. GooRoo has lots of experience facilitating collaboration with new children.

What happens in the workshop?
Workshops will consist of an initial presentation and demonstration of approximately 20 mins. There will then be around an hour of building and animating leading into about 20 minutes of editing. The final 20 minutes of the workshop is for sharing and viewing the films.

What kind of films are made?
Workshop participants will use LEGO® sets to make a short animation on a topic of their choice. They will edit and add music to their animations. These films are usually around 20 seconds long. Participants will create their own story using the LEGO® provided, there is lots of creative freedom and many LEGO sets and backdrops to choose from.

Do we bring the LEGO® kits home with us?
No. All equipment is the property of GooRoo and needs to be left behind to be used in future workshops.

Does this workshop include entry into Relics: A New World Rises?
No, you will need to book tickets separately via our website. Please book early to secure your preferred time as we anticipate that many sessions will sell out.

ACCESS INFORMATION
The Armoury Gallery can be accessed via stairs or lift. Some larger powered wheelchairs or mobility scooters may not easily navigate this heritage-listed building.

Workshops can get noisy - If your child is sensitive to noise, we have sensory backpacks which include noise-canceling headphones available for free loan at the security desk in the museum.
