Little legs 2-4yrs

Young dancers will enjoy free face painting and an introduction to basic ballet and jazz dance moves in a fun, supportive environment.

Led by dance Director Sym and her assistant, this session encourages creative expression and the joy of movement through free play and guided exploration of the dance space.

Perfect for little ones to build confidence, spark imagination, and discover the magic of dance!

·       Thurs 10th April, 9.30 – 10.30am, $20

Make & Move

Young dancers will start their creative journey with face painting, choosing fun and imaginative designs to spark their inner performer. Next, they’ll get hands-on crafting an exciting theatrical prop or costume accessory—something unique to enhance their character.

With their new look and prop in hand, they’ll step into our expressive and creative dance workshops, where we explore a variety of dance genres through playful movement, storytelling, and imagination.

It’s a fun-filled experience that brings together art, costume, and dance—encouraging confidence, creativity, and a love of performance!

Intermediate students 8 yrs and up will enjoy a Lyrical Contemporary dance workshop. Lyrical dance is a dance style that embodies various aspects of ballet, jazz, and contemporary The style combines ballet technique with the freedom and musicality of jazz and contemporary often being inspired by song lyrics.

·       Junior group with Jessica, Wed 9th July 1-2.30pm, Thurs 10th Make & Move 11-12.30, rehearsal 1 – 2.30pm. There will be a short supervised lunch break in between (BYO lunch!). $70 make & move workshop & rehearsals.

Next Gen Movers – The Weight of Air: Movements for the Unspoken

For ages 18+ | No dance experience required | FREE

Following on from the success of our first project, Just Breathe: A Bandaid—an exploration of breath in all its forms, we invite young adults (18+) to join our new movement-based project.

Participants will gain choreographic tools to create their own movement pieces, and collaborate on a collective dance that gives voice to the unspoken experiences of young people today. Rooted in contemporary dance, this project provides a safe and expressive space, inviting personal storytelling, reflection, and shared discovery. It is a space to move, to express without words, and to explore the emotional weight of mental health. An AYSA youth worker will be present throughout the project, offering support, insight, and guidance alongside lead dance facilitator Sym.

What to Expect Each Session:

·       Physical warm-up

·       Guided exploration of themes & ideas

·       Introduction to movement and dance-making techniques

·       Creative choreography building—solo and group

·       Cool-down, reflection, and open discussion

In addition to movement, participants will also explore costume design. Together, we’ll look at colours, fabrics, styles, and upcycled materials to create costume prototypes that reflect personal and group themes.

No prior dance experience needed—just a willingness to explore and create. Whether you’ve danced for years or are stepping into a studio for the first time, your story and movement matter.
