Welcome back to the July 2025 chapter of the Sydney Poetry Lounge, featuring poetry from David Stavanger and Ali Jane Smith, and our incredible open mic! Join us upstairs at The Glebe Hotel for a night filled with powerful spoken word performances and heartfelt poetry.

$10 entry, $5 concession, tickets available on the door or via Humanitix.

15 x 2-minute open mic slots available, sign-up at the door from 6:30pm.

David Stavanger

David Stavanger is a poet, producer, and lapsed psychologist living on Wodi Wodi Dharawal land. He is the co-editor of Solid Air: Australian & New Zealand Spoken Word (UQP, 2019), Admissions: Voices Within Mental Health (Upswell, 2022), and is the author of Case Notes which won the 2021 Victorian Premier's Prize for Poetry—his new collection is The Drop Off (Upswell, 2025). David works as an Artistic Director at Red Room Poetry.

Ali Jane Smith

Ali Jane Smith’s book The Strange Matter was published this year by Life Before Man. She lives in Wollongong, on Wodi Wodi Dharawhal Country. Her critical writing has appeared in Sydney Review of Books, Southerly, Cordite and Australian Poetry Journal.
