Event description

Hello! I'm inviting you all to see a great NZ movie with me - Kōkā

I am fundraising to access lifesaving treatment in Spain, for a rare condition that NZ does not treat.

Please look at tinyurl.com/Forest-Aid for more detailed information about my condition and the fundraising effort.

Thanking you for the support.
I have made tiered ticket pricing for those who don't have the means to pay the full price.

There's homemade treats to be enjoyed too

Podcast interview with Verity Mackintosh.

About the film:

Under the celestial guidance of Matariki, kuia Hamo (Hinetu Dell) and the troubled Jo (Darneen Christian) form an unlikely bond on a road trip. As they confront painful histories and navigate the weight of their pasts, their shared journey becomes one of healing, community, and reconciliation.

Set against the breathtaking landscapes of Aotearoa, Kōkā marks the debut feature from director Kath Akuhata-Brown (Ngāti Porou) and is the first film told entirely in the original Ngāti Porou dialect - brought to life through the guidance of language and tikanga experts Erana Reedy and Karepe McDonald.

Produced by Verity Mackintosh and Libby Hakaraia, Kōkā was made with a predominantly Māori cast and crew, and nurtured emerging talent through the Māoriland Film Festival’s rangatahi programme

At its heart, this is a story of reconnection — with whenua, with whakapapa, and with each other.
