AOC Fieldtrip: Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre Tour
Event description
Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre is a small not‑for‑profit wildlife sanctuary located in the Perth Hills dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of Western Australia’s endemic and threatened Carnaby’s, Baudin’s and Forest Red-tailed Black-Cockatoos.
During this tour you will enjoy a guided walk around Kaarakin and learn about their world class black-cockatoo rehabilitation program, from rescue to release back into the wild, and meet some resident black-cockatoos who live at Kaarakin as active ambassadors for their species. The highlight of the tour is a visit to Jack’s Interactive Aviary, where you can get up close to the resident black-cockatoos. These cockatoos are curious, gentle, and friendly. You can hand feed them some gumnuts and be ready to be used as a perch!*
You will also get to visit the kangaroos, spy the emus, and see Australia’s apex land predator, the dingo. Kaarakin is nestled within the bushland of Banyowla Regional Park, so make sure you bring along your binoculars if you have them, and keep an eye out for local native birds and wildlife in the centre grounds and surrounds.
* Children must be over 6 years of age to go inside the interactive aviary.
Please note: Walking around Kaarakin does involve slopes, uneven terrain, and loose material.
