Kaffee und Kuchen: Selections from Winterreise
German American Heritage Center & Museum
Davenport IA, United States
Description
Schubert’s Winterreise (Winter Journey) is considered the pinnacle of not only German art song (Lieder) but also of all art song cycles. What are some of the poetic and musical elements that contribute to the work’s longevity and dramatic appeal? And what does this song cycle tell us about ourselves almost 200 years after the work was originally composed? Join baritone Nathan Windt and pianist Marian Lee as they perform excerpts from the cycle and discuss the enduring legacy of this song cycle today.
