Kaffee und Kuchen: WWII Experiences in Iowa; A Book By Me Opening Event
Description
Join us with Understanding Works and A BOOK by ME featuring two true stories that preserve German and German-American history: Super Sonic Cowboy, the story of WWII veteran Ray Fairbank, and Regina’s Memories, the story of Regina Boche’s childhood in Germany and journey to America. Discover how young people are helping preserve history for future generations.
Both stories will be on exhibit on the 3rd floor gallery with accompanying personal items on display.
A BOOK by ME®, a book series developed by Deb Bowen, empowers students to preserve history by telling the story of unsung heroes in our communities. For the young participants, it's a cross-curricular project that gathers stories of people who have done amazing things but received little or no recognition. Students learn how to publish a picture book that is a primary source document complete with photographs and a biography.
