Event description

Residing in the Melbourne Town Hall is the magnificent grand organ, considered the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. This majestic instrument is the centrepiece for a spellbinding evening of music.

First, a new composition commissioned by Now or Never and Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS) in an exclusive world premiere.

In their second-ever staging, the MESS Synthesiser Orchestra under the guidance of the Melbourne/Narrm composer collective STATHIS//DAVEY//KIM, will combine historic machines from the MESS collection with the grand organ. Witness this live performance as 12 exceptional artists collaborate, activating iconic synthesisers from the annals of electronic music history.

Following this, Stockholm-based American composer Kali Malone will perform pieces from her critically acclaimed album, The Sacrificial Code, on the grand organ in an Australian first. With subtly subversive elements and an exquisite interplay of sound, each delicate shift is intensified through moments of profound stillness. Audience members will be enraptured as Malone’s artistry unfolds in this humbling musical encounter.

Additional accompaniment will be provided by Stephen O’Malley, lending himself to several four-handed organ pieces.

This is a seated performance.
