Kalon Captain // Yianni Adams Play Trio
Description
Traditional folk hymns meet the playful, spontaneous spirit of modern jazz.
Drummer Kalon Captain and guitarist Yianni Adams are distinctive voices within the Sydney music scene, sharing a musical friendship that is at once playful, intuitive and deeply felt. Over the years they have cultivated a sound which draws upon the rich traditions of modern Jazz, American Folk and African Folk - a nod to the influential works of Bill Frisell and Jeff Parker.
Kalon and Yianni have performed together in a number of ensembles, devoting particular attention to their collaborative project FIELDS - dedicated to fully improvised, groove driven Jazz. They have performed at Kiama Jazz & Blues Festival, Milton Folk, Jazz and Blues Festival and perform regularly within the Sydney region.
For this special performance they will be joined by the exceptionally talented Cairn Peterson on double bass. Together the trio will reimagine familiar melodies from songwriters such as Bob Dylan and Ian & Sylvia, providing the basis for free-form improvisation.
Music that listens as much as it speaks - playful, searching, and very much alive.
