Kardla : A Journey of Healing Country Through Fire
Description
Presented by Kaurna Kardla, Nature Festival with support from Adelaide City Council
Join Kaurna Kardla for a walk through the Adelaide Park Lands as they share Traditional Knowledge Systems in Aboriginal Land Management and Cultural Fire.
This talk will provide a high-level exploration of Aboriginal land management practices, with a focus on the cultural, ecological, and regenerative role of cultural burning.
Drawing on lived knowledge and practice, the session will challenge dominant Western perspectives on fire and land stewardship, inviting participants to critically examine established assumptions and consider alternative ways of understanding and caring for Yarta (Country).
Participants will gain insight into the ongoing revival of cultural fire practices and their contemporary relevance across environmental, educational, and community contexts. The presentation aims to provoke thoughtful reflection, inspire new ways of thinking, and encourage the integration of Aboriginal knowledge systems into research, policy, and practice.
