Ever wanted to know what a combined Book Week x Book Launch x Book Club event for grown-ups would be like?

Same!

Let's find out on Thursday 27th August between 6pm and 7.30pm at Cedar & Pine Bar in Wynnum.

WHAT IS THIS EVENT?

• In brief: Book chat. In a bar. On a school night.

• In detail: Two Queensland children's authors in conversation with a local bookshop owner in celebration of Australian KidLit during CBCA Book Week.

  There will be a casual panel-style chat about the creative writing process, engaging young readers in schools & homes & likely a few reading & writing related tangent topics,

  followed by audience Q & A, general mingling & good times!

• Also: As part of this event, a brand-new Aussie middle-grade children's novel - Aidan Versus the Ocean by Dannika Patterson - will be officially launched on this evening.
  

WHO'S GOING?

• Local (Manly) children's author Dannika Patterson, who also facilitates the Bayside Book Club — a group that meets monthly at Cedar & Pine Bar.

• This August, the Book Club is reading Lenny's Book of Everything... which brings us to our special guest: award-winning author Karen Foxlee! Karen will chat about Lenny,

  plus her recent and forthcoming children's novel releases. Karen will also officially help launch Dannika's new middle-grade novel, Aidan Versus the Ocean.

• Local (Manly) book shop owner, Laura Norris (The Mad Hatters Book Shop) who (among many things) is a book-recommendation wizard, across all ages & genres (bend her ear!).

  Laura will moderate the panel chat portion of the evening as well as take care of book sales on the night via a pop-up book shop.

• .... and hopefully, YOU! :-)

WHY ATTEND?

• Because you have an interest in children's books. You might read them, write them, illustrate them, teach them, or love to buy them as gifts for the kiddos in your life.

• Because you've been thinking about maaaaybe joining a Book Club, and this is your chance to dip a toe into the Bayside Book Club Community and see if it could be a fit.

• Because why should all the CBCA Book Week fun be had by children?

  WHAT ELSE?

  Cost: Free to attend.

  Food & Drink: Light nibbles platters will be provided & the bar will be open for folks to purchase their own drinks or order additional food from the bar menu.

  Books: Copies of Dannika Patterson & Karen Foxlee's books will be available to purchase on the night via a Mad Hatters Pop Up Book Shop.

  Kiddos: This one is mostly for the grown-ups, but children are welcome to attend as long as they are accompanied by responsible adults and supervised by them at all times.

  Note that the panel chat will consist of content that is mostly of interest to parents, teachers, KidLit industry folks, etc.
