Homeplace - Karlina Mitchell Exhibition Opening

Through installation, Mitchell reflects on ideas of home, rising tides, and the memories held within landscapes. Drawing on the interior of a Fijian home, 'Homeplace' centres vibrant Bula print fabrics traditionally used in domestic decoration, alongside the use of mangrove dye that reference the coastal ecosystems sustaining the artists family village. The work also considers cultural practices lost through ecological disasters impacting the Pacific, and Mitchell’s personal relationship to language and diasporic identity.

Karlina Mitchell is a multidisciplinary artist. Karlina works with photography and installation to interrogate the ways in which diasporic communities express notions of self and communal identity.

This is a free event, and all are welcome to attend, engage and explore, respectfully. There will be a licenced bar with non-alcoholic options.

ACCESSIBILITY: The gallery is wheelchair accessible from the Brunswick St entrance. The passenger lift is accesible from the Brunswick St entrance, as well as the Level 1 Berwick Str courtyard entrance. Bathrooms are located on Level 1 of the Judith Wright Arts Centre.
