    Event description

Follow in Kate Sheppard's tyre tracks to learn more about this fearless social campaigner and enthusiastic cyclist.

This gentle Spring ride will take you around the central city and Addington, then out along the leafy Uni-Cycle route to Te Whare Waiutuutu Kate Sheppard House for a guided tour and refreshments. We'll stop at places of interest to hear more about Kate Sheppard's life and work.

The ride will be led by Dr Rosemary Baird (Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga), with support from two Biketober guides. The ride returns to Victoria Square.

It is a condition of participation in any Biketober ride that you abide by some basic health & safety (aka common sense). We use separated cycle paths wherever possible, but you do need to be ok riding on the road. Check your bike is road-worthy (especially brakes and tyres), and wear your helmet.

This ride is a partnership between Biketober and Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga, custodian of Te Whare Waiutuutu Kate Sheppard House.

Cheers to Christchurch City Council for supporting the ride as part of the Christchurch Heritage Festival. Tickets include entry to Te Whare Waiutuutu, a guided tour of the house, devonshire tea, and the guided ride itself.
