Event description
KATIPS is a movie adaptation of the musical that was first performed in 2016 that captures the aspirations and lives of young Filipinos during Martial Law. It follows the struggles, heartaches, pain and brutal realism of what transpired in the young activists’ fight against oppression and for freedom from 1971, and will span decades until its reflection into today’s reality.
KATIPS in Australia is brought to you by the Australians for Philippine Human Rights Network (APHRN), a network of Filipino-Australians who advocate for human rights and peace in the Philippines, Australia, and other parts of the world. APHRN believes KATIPS will enlighten Filipino-Australians about the issues faced by the Philippine society during the Martial Law years that drove many young Filipinos to serve their country to the point of sacrificing their lives.
APHRN is joined by other Filipino-Australian organisations in this initiative:
TLR Australia (Team Leni Robredo)
TSM (The Silent Majority)
Project HOPE-South Australia
KakamPINK Victoria
Maypagasa Network- Melbourne
Queenslanders for Leni
1Sambayan Australia
We thank The Silent Witness Network (TSWN) for auspicing this project.
