    Event description

    Kaurna Day

    Tirkanthi | Ngutu | Taikurrinthi

learn | knowledge | be together

    Together, let’s celebrate uplifting community.

The University of Adelaide kicks off its 150th celebrations with Kaurna Day - Tirkanthi -  Ngutu -  Taikurrinthi (Learning – Knowledge - Be united together), a day to immerse yourself and  celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture. A sunrise smoking ceremony  begins a day of music, dance, storytelling, and food including a limited number of complimentary native inspired breakfast boxes for those who attend.

Kaurna Day is a community event and everyone is welcome! Join us on 27 February, 7 am–5 pm, as we strengthen the connection between the University of Adelaide and the Kaurna People. Whether you come for an hour or come for the day, there’s plenty to explore and discover: community stalls, performances by First Nations artists from the Centre of Aboriginal Studies in Music, student presentations, and collaborative information sessions facilitated by Wirltu Yarlu.

We will also have traditional games and cultural workshops by Deadly Mentorz, live artmaking by Booke Rigney, cooking demonstrations by Creative Native & Youth Inc., and musical performances by Shellie Morris, Tilly Tjala Thomas, and Corey Theatre. And don’t miss getting up close and personal with local native South Australian animals and wildlife from Animals Anonymous!

Kaurna Day will be a day to honour and celebrate First Nations people and culture.

    Together, let’s celebrate uplifting community.
