Kawandi Style Quilting Workshop
Event description
This Kawandi style workshop teaches you a simple machine based version, that uses a 'quilt as you go' technique. This style of African quilting is great for using all those small scraps of fabric left over from other creative projects.Â
In this workshop you will create a placemat size Kawandi piece. All materials are provided, but you can also bring pieces of old clothing (woven cotton, not stretch) or fabric scraps if you like.
Suitable for those with basic sewing machine skills, you will learn how to piece, quilt and finish, all in one simple step. It's a great opportunity to stitch together memories from pieces that matter, creating a new story and perhaps even an heirloom piece.Â
This workshop is limited to 8 participants.
PLEASE NOTE: All of our classes and workshops are created using circular economy principles. This means we love using many recycled and reclaimed fabrics, and haberdashery items for our sewing projects. We are deeply passionate about diverting textile waste from landfill and we do this through upcycling.
