Jamaican Dancehall legend Kaytii Insanity is coming to Perth! Join us for this extra special workshop to learn from one of the greats who's currently making waves in Kingston and all over the world. No prior dancehall training required: Kaytii will break down female movements, and authentic dancehall style and groove.

What to expect
Kaytii Insanity's workshop will cover core techniques (incl. wine, jook, bubble), Kaytii's original styles and moves, choreography, and cultural and historical knowledge about Female Dancehall. We encourage dancers of all skill levels to attend this workshop and have the opportunity to learn from an original Dancehall creator.

Kaytii Insanity
Kaytii is one of the stalwarts of Dancehall art and culture today in Jamaica, known for imbuing her creations with the real emotions of her lived experiences.

She was a pioneering member of Cuban Squad from 2008, creating powerful, sharp moves during this early female Dancehall period and refining her craft in the Kingston Dance Halls. Kaytii consciously changed the face of New School female Dancehall with her hit move Appeal in 2017, in response to discrimination she faced as a dancer with chronic illness.

As a teacher and mentor, Kaytii brings expertise across the many subgenres of Dancehall: Old Skool, Mid Skool and New Skool male, female and Queenz styles and history. She is a highly sought-after teacher and globally recognised dancer and MC, teaching global courses on Dancehall technique, culture and moves. She has toured Europe in 2019 and 2022, and is touring Australia in 2024. She has been a judge and MC at many Jamaican and international Dancehall dance championships, and has herself placed in prestigious Dancehall competitions including the World Reggae Dance Championships and On The Verge. Kaytii has also been a core dancer for the Boom Energy Drink squad, with fellow dancers Darkie and Happy Feet (who toured to Perth in 2023), for over a decade.

Female Dancehall
Female Dancehall dance style is a vibrant and expressive form of dance that originates from the Dancehall music scene in Kingston, Jamaica.

Female Dancehall dance is not just about movement: it is an important medium for women to express their identity, sexuality, and personal stories. It is an empowerment tool, allowing women to take ownership of their bodies and challenge societal norms that often objectify or suppress female sexuality. In the context of Jamaican culture, and increasingly on a global scale, these dances provide a space for women to communicate issues of gender, power, and resistance.

It's important that this dance style is performed by women because it is deeply tied to the female experience within the socio-cultural environment of Jamaica. The movements and the dance itself are crafted to celebrate and accentuate the female form and its capabilities, and authentically reflect the lives and experiences of women in Dancehall culture.
