Join The Resilient Activist at KC Farm School for a Work Day

At The Resilient Activist, one of our basic philosophies is that getting back to nature can offer a powerful boost to our emotional well-being. And giving back to nature by nurturing and supporting the Farm School’s mission is a welcome bonus.

Come Join our Growing Community! (Pun intended!)

About the KC Farm School

The KC Farm School is a nonprofit organization operating 14 urban acres in Kansas City, Kansas. They are a working production and education farm with a mission to empower individuals of all ages, ancestries, and abilities through on-farm, hands-on experiences and vocational education connecting them to the land and soil, food, community, and opportunity. They serve over 10,000 people annually through their food outreach (on-farm farmers market, food donations, and CSA program) and their educational programs which include a community food sovereignty program, field trips, youth apprenticeships, summer camps, volunteer opportunities, community workshops, and events. They work with, rather than for, their community to create a space at the center of the community where people can learn, grow, and connect to each other.

Our Vision

It is the KC Farm School‘s goal for this event to provide a nature-connected experience for The Resilient Activist community by offering participants a hands-on activity planting seeds and nurturing young seedlings. It is also an opportunity for The Resilient Activist’s participants to gain valuable insights and hope from the KC Farm School’s amazing work in the community.

Through collaborating with like-minded organizations, we further our vision for current and future generations to live in a healthy, diverse, and regenerative environment.

Why Nature-Connection is Important 🍄‍🟫

We *are* nature but our culture and lifestyle can separate from our connection with our environment. Re-establishing our sense of awareness and belonging in nature by breaking down barriers and spending more time outdoors helps each of us in different ways. It can reduce anxiety and depression, improve physical health, inspire creativity, improve clarity of thought, facilitate problem-solving, and help us gain perspective.

In a society where loneliness is an epidemic, rediscovering our sense of belonging within nature can help us feel a little less adrift and provide comfort when relationships with others fall short.

Work Day Leader

This event is led by Anna Graether, a board member of The Resilient Activist, a Johnson County Master Naturalist, and a Deep Roots Nature Advisor. Her focus is on impacting climate change through speaking about, writing about and planting more native plants at home, in her neighborhood and in her city.
