Step into the Ice Age — and onto the dance floor — at a free, all-ages Summer Nights party that brings together two incredible Los Angeles institutions — KCRW and the La Brea Tar Pits. Enjoy the museum after hours, explore interactive exhibits and get up close to real fossils discovered right in the heart of LA. Plus, groove along to sets from KCRW DJs Novena Carmel & Francesca Harding, grab a bite from local food trucks, sip refreshments, and more.
This is one of the last La Brea Tar Pits events before the museum closes its doors on July 7th for a two-year transformation project. Revisit one of LA’s most iconic locations and make some memories before the makeover.

About La Brea Tar Pits
La Brea Tar Pits is one of Earth’s most important Ice Age fossil sites. Located in the heart of Los Angeles on the Miracle Mile in Hancock Park, the asphalt seeps at La Brea form the only consistently active urban Ice Age excavation site in the world and provide a complete record of the plants and animals that have lived in the L.A. Basin from 50,000 years ago to today. The site is a unique window into active science where fossils are discovered, prepared, researched, and displayed in one place.
La Brea Tar Pits is part of the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC), which also includes the Natural History Museum (NHM) in Exposition Park.

KCRW DJ Francesca Harding
Francesca Harding has been working in the music industry as a radio host, DJ and most recently as a music supervisor for over a decade. From DJing internationally to working in the sync and licensing world, Francesca has provided the musical backdrop for a variety of projects alongside the best and brightest in the business. Working in the film and TV advertising space, Francesca has found campaign music for studios like Pixar, Netflix and Spectrum. She has music supervision and coordinator credits for several long-form projects, as well, including the web series Take Creative Control, Kings of Napa (OWN), Five Feet Apart (CBS Films), and Rim of the World (Netflix). As a radio host, her mixes have been featured on Los Angeles’ Pacifica Radio, Jay Z’s blog Life and Times, Seattle’s 90.3FM KEXP and Worldwide FM. As a DJ, Francesca has curated content for fashion brands, art publications and music festivals, including the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and Chicago's Unisono. She has had the pleasure of spinning for crowds in the UK, Mexico City, Colombia, the Bahamas and South Korea and has played opening sets for artists such as The Weeknd and Ariana Grande.
KCRW DJ Novena Carmel
If you find yourself in a room with Novena Carmel, you’re in the right place. Now based in LA, Novena was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area surrounded by her mother’s record collection and rooted in musical legacy. Her father, Sly Stone, fortified her funk foundation and passed on a love for the brilliance of “everyday people.” Carmel's family connection to Brazil along with her Japanese bilingual and bicultural schooling, further expanded her world-view. Inspired by the guidance of one of her best friends and mentors, her grandfather, she moved to Los Angeles at 18, to attend UCLA. She has been a proud LA resident ever since with a deep appreciation for the city’s contributions to the global cultural landscape. When Novena launched her DJ career, it quickly took off, fueled by her global perspective, infectious energy and open-format music selections. In 2018 Novena Carmel was invited to join the DJ team at KCRW, and you can now catch her live at select events, and weekdays on-air as the host of KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic.
