K'É HASIN – 5K walk/run
Description
The K’É HASIN Project is a community-based initiative encouraging immersion in rural Native environments, while creating opportunities to reflect on traditional ways of living, historical experiences, and pathways toward healing and collective growth. Through local outreach, cultural education, ethnobotanical awareness, physical activity, storytelling, and ceremony. K’É HASIN seeks to inspire individuals to become more aware of their relationship with the land, their history, and one another.
Our inaugural event will take place on Friday, October 16th in Ganado, Arizona. We will be hosting a 5k walk/run, followed by a free shared meal, and ending with a traditional Native American Church ceremony, with an emphasis on youth participation. This event will form the last leg of a larger frontline project called the North American Trek, supported by we.grow.eco, the Santa Fe, New Mexico non-profit where I (Chantel West) work as the education program facilitator & coordinator. For 8 months, my friend Chauncey Foster is traveling throughout North America on foot, bike, and canoe. While the trek will end in October, when Chauncey returns to Santa Fe, I plan on continuing K’E HASIN as an annual event, and growing from there.
We are seeking support in the form of financial contributions, in-kind donations, and spreading the word for community members to participate. Please consider making a contribution to the $3,600 fundraising goal to cover the costs of the food, water, and ceremony: https://donorbox.org/natrek
