NHVic Day of Action - KEEP OUR DOORS OPEN
Description
Strong communities start in shared spaces and shared moments. Neighbourhood Houses are essential for fostering those moments and connections. Every week, 185,000 people access Neighbourhood Houses in Victoria for resilience, friendship, wellbeing, learning, inclusion, and connection.
Neighbourhood Houses have faced rising costs, increasing community need and an erosion of core funding. Our funding no longer covers staff wages, let alone operational costs. Around half of all Neighbourhood Houses in Victoria are running at a loss. This cannot continue.
We are asking Ros Spence and the Victorian Government to urgently restore funding to historical levels through a 25% increase, allowing Neighbourhood Houses to continue providing communities with essential support and connection.
Join us on the steps of Victorian Parliament to support our ask, and support Neighbourhood Houses!
Timeline:
Meet from 12pm in the Gardens near Coles Fountain.
At 12:30pm, the group will walk over to the steps in front of Parliament. You are also welcome to head directly to the steps.
Once the group has arrived, we’ll have a series of speakers, and we will be inviting the politicians to join us for photo opportunities.
Wear campaign colours! You can purchase t-shirts and other merchandise here (you may need to use express post!) or simply wear pink, yellow, and/or blue to show your support.
If you have them, make sure you bring posters, corflutes, or other signage. We’ll be bringing ours along but the more the merrier. Some attendees are making their own banners and artwork to bring – we’d love to see more of that if you’re feeling inspired!
Also bring along any signed postcards that are yet to be handed over – we can hand them over as a group on the day.
