Keep Wallum Wild: Community Art & Culture Day
Event description
Join us for an inspiring day of art, music, dance, jarjum craft, workshops, nourishing food, and powerful speakers to activate and unite the community to protect Wallum!
🌿ABOUT WALLUM🌿
Wallum, Brunswick Heads is a place of beauty, belonging, ecological importance, and utmost cultural significance.
This most sublime thriving ecosystem is home to ancient Scribbly gums, koalas, sugar gliders, glossy black cockatoos, and many precious pollinators!
The critically endangered Wallum froglet has its natural habitat here amongst the rare Wallum wildflowers.
Devastatingly this site is a large part of the mere 1% remaining of the Wallum heathland in the Byron Shire; the only representation of this unique biodiversity in Brunswick Heads.
Wallum - wildflower country and the songline to the Dreaming - belongs to the community, wildlife and future generations.
It does not belong with developers for a luxury housing estate.
In short, we must protect this precious untouched gem of exquisite beauty and belonging.

🌿ABOUT SAVE WALLUM🌿
"Save Wallum" is an upsurgence of community (2200 members strong, and growing) who oppose the approval of Clarence Property's Luxury Housing Coastal Subdivision, located at 15 Torakina Rd, Brunswick Heads (DA 10.2021.575.1)
Titled "Wallum", after the ecology it could destroy, the Development proposes 31 Lots - 124 Residential Lots & 3 Medium Density Lots. Plus a series of roads and supporting infrastructure. The proposed development sits on bushfire-prone and flood liable land, with acid sulfate soils that generate large amounts of sulphuric acid when disturbed, rapidly degrading infrastructure - including concrete.
As a group, we are seeking Federal intervention, to protect this rare and precious site.
Join our group here.
