Description

Join Western Local Land Services to explore 4 years of local pasture-monitoring data and practical tools to improve grazing decisions, drought readiness, and resilience.

Event details:

Join us for a field day exploring 4 years of rangeland pasture monitoring and how the findings can support practical grazing management decisions.

We'll look at trends in pasture quality, changes in ground cover and the impacts of seasonal variability, demonstrating how monitoring data can help landholders make more informed and timely decisions.

The day will also explore ground cover decision trigger points, which can provide 3 - 6 months' early warning of declining ground cover and feed availability, helping landholders plan ahead and respond proactively.

Other topics include emerging opportunities in saltbush carbon measurement and the role of confinement feeding in drought preparedness and management.

Hear from a range of speakers as they share local research, practical tools and strategies to support grazing management in the rangelands.

Speakers:

  • Christine Plummer, Western Local Land Services – Pasture Monitoring in the Rangelands Producer Demonstration Site findings.

  • Geoff Minchin, Local Land Services Drought Adoption Officer Program – confinement feeding.

  • Dr John Leys, DustWatch Australia – the Smart Grazing, Stronger Lands project findings to date.

  • Paris Capell, Western Local Land Services – saltbush carbon measurement and opportunities

Additional details:

  • Morning tea and lunch provided.
