Event description

Learn the basics of keeping backyard chickens.

This 1.5 – 2 hour interactive workshop will cover all the basics of keeping chickens, housing, breeds, health, and nutrition. We will have a veterinarian to answer your questions. Children will get to pat and hold chickens, and everyone leaves with the knowledge and confidence to begin keeping their own flock and producing their own free-range eggs.

Learn about the benefits of backyard chickens, what you need to consider before getting backyard chickens, Councils rules and requirements, the different types of henhouses, watering and feeding options, the different breeds of chickens and how to look after your flock.

Chooks not only provide fresh eggs, they are a friendly addition to a backyard and can turn your kitchen scraps into fertilizer.

Cost: $10 per person or $35 for a family. All welcome.
