What does my ticket include?
Entry to the event
Cakes/puddings
A free drink (or two) - beers kindly donated by Fell Brewery , and there will be a range of no and low alcoholic drinks available. You are welcome to BYO if you have a preferred tipple.
How will the toy swap work?
Drop off your unwanted toys and books before the event (we’ll share drop-off locations and times nearer the date)
Drop off at least four items and you can take whatever you like on the night (no tokens this year)
If you are expecting a baby or don't have anything to swap, you can still take items after the first 30 minutes (there is always lots of stuff for the littlest ones)
On the night, there will be a browsing period before you can take anything to give everyone the chance to arrive
Have a drink and catch up with your friends
Go home with your little one’s Christmas gifts sorted!
A few rules
Items must be clean, in good condition, in working order and have all their parts (we’ll turn away anything that doesn’t meet these standards).
If battery powered - make sure they’re charged/include batteries so people can check they work
No soft toys - sorry!
No crap raffle
Raffle tickets will be available for £1 each on the night (bring cash!). We have had some awesome low/no waste prizes donated so far, including:
£50 voucher for Jim's Pizza at Fell Bar
A voucher for Plants 4 Presents
A copy of the children's book "Taylor Meets The Trick" (Grown ups call it the patriarchy. Kids call it the trick)
A gift bag of Fell Beer
A kids baking kit from Bizzie Baking
A free hire of The Kendal Party Kit
All money raised from the raffle will go towards No Crap Parties campaigns (Party Pact CIC).
Can you donate a prize? Email us hello@nocrapparties.org - thanks :)
What's the Kids Party Pact's 1st birthday about?
The very first people to hear about The Kids Party Pact (except Charlotte's Mum, Dad and Husband) were the people at last years Toy Swap - and many of them became the first signatories too!
So, we're taking this opportunity to turn the Toy Swap into a chance to also celebrate the progress we've made in one year (including coverage in The Times, Positive News, Newsround - and Lottery Funding!). Expect cake, but no crap.
Thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund!
This event has been supported by funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, which was granted to support The Kids Party Pact campaign.
FAQs:
Why are you not doing tokens any more?
A few reasons! Tokes are a bit of an admin headache, so it will be easier to organise without them. We always have loads of toys leftover, so hopefully this will encourage people to take what they need without restriction.
I have a young baby/am expecting, will there be stuff for me?
Yes definitely, last year there were loads of things for babies. And if you don't have anything to swap yet you should still come - after the first 30 minutes of swapping you're welcome to take things.
What age group are the toys for?
Toys and books suitable for children 0-7 years old.
Can I come just for the fun and not get involved in the swapping?
Yes for sure - bag yourself a ticket! Bring a friend :)
Is it weird to come on my own?
Not at all - please do come along. We are a very friendly bunch!
Why should I swap toys, rather than buying new?
Saving money, obviously! And your impact on our planet. The energy that goes into the manufacturing, transport, retail, delivery and packaging of all our Christmas shopping is huge. Swapping or buying second-hand is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint - and save stuff from landfill.
What about leftover items?
Any toys that don’t get taken will go to charity.
