On Sunday, June 4 2023 Kendall PhiloMusica presents a program of classical chamber music at the Kendall School of Arts.

In the Performance at 2 pm, Goetz Richter (violin) and Jeanell Carrigan (piano) are joined by young Emerging Artists David Carreon (violin), Justin Chen (viola) and Joanne Hwang (cello) to perform

J. Brahms, Sonata in d minor op 108
F. Schubert, Quartet in a minor D 804

The performance is preceded at 1 pm by a pre-concert talk from Dr. Goetz Richter on the topic of Musical Playing: Why Artificial Intelligence can't - and won't really play Music

Recent developments in AI such as ChatGBT suggest that technology will replace humans in many areas of life. However, musical play and playing music won't be one of them. To argue this, Dr. Richter, an Associate Professor at the University of Sydney puts forward a view of what actually goes on when humans play music and when listeners attend to such playing. Musical playing requires existential experience which can not be merely gathered. Attendance at the pre-concert talk is free with a concert ticket.
