Event description

The popular series of music and philosophy returns to the Kendall School of Arts on May 2 with a program of music by Beethoven, Schumann and William Walton. Violinist Goetz Richter and pianist Jeanell Carrigan will be joined by the formidable Ash Quartet from Sydney to present an afternoon of exciting chamber music. Commencing at 2 pm, their performance will be preceded by a philosophical discussion at 1 pm on Modernity and Utopia presented by musician and philosopher Goetz Richter.

The Kendall PhiloMusica series is convened by Kendall National Violin Competition Artistic Director Goetz Richter. On May 2, string Quartets by Beethoven and Walton bookend a performance of Robert Schumann’s Violin Sonata performed by Richter and Carrigan. The philosophical topic of “modernity and utopia” takes its leave from the turbulent and revolutionary nature of the music presented. Further dates of the series in 2021 are July 4, September 5 and November 7. All profits from the series benefit the Kendall National Violin Competition (www.kendallviolin.org.au)
