Our Mission:

We create organic food gardens close to where local live, encouraging community, sharing, learning and sustainable production of home grown fruit and vegetables.

Our approach:

Membership is open to everyone in the community, regardless of gardening experience you can learn as you go.

Allotments larger than the standard (5m x 1m) are for specific crops (vines, berries, etc)
We encourage collective use (groups)
Communal tasks are part of your responsibility as a member
Direction from a small garden committee is to be followed, ensuring good flow and conducive behaviour!

Membership,

Membership requires:

Payment of a donation of $40 per year to secure an allotment.
Flexible arrangements are available for students and hardship cases .
Members are invited to pay for 2 years where possible, or to make a voluntary donation towards establishment and running costs.

Associate members

Friends of KNCG members are welcome to come and participate in social events, working bees, workshops and borrowing gardening books from our on-site library.

Obligations & guidelines

Members are obliged to...

Maintain a tidy garden free of seed-bearing weeds. Persistent poor management may result in forfeiting your allotment!
Inform management by SMS if you are to be absent from your plot for 2 weeks or more (this is to ensure appropriate watering & care for your allotment)
Use organic methods only (if you would like some directions on this, please ask David)
Spent crop should be cut into small pieces and placed in compost tanks provided for fermentation to occur
Domestic and commercial sources of coffee grounds are best used in composting, not as a plant food
Assist in maintaining tools provided by cleaning and returning them after use
Take rubbish home with you as we do not have rubbish collection
Take care of their own and others safety by wearing necessary sunscreen, gloves, hats and shoes
Report damaged tools and other equipment
Members are responsible for their own seeds, watering, pruning, weed and pest control
Let garden manager know if you no longer require your allotment
Volunteer in seasonal working bees with other members at peak times
Replace the hose that you use along pathways, rather than looped into a tight circle
Fermented animal manures are available locally in a powdered form which is highly recommended
Use compost available with respect and love, it’s a precious resource!
Animal manures are generally poor sources of minerals. Good sources are commercial rock dust, kelp seaweed products and fish extracts lead to disease-resistant plant quality and improved flavour.

And most importantly, members should recognise that gardening is an active meditation for some, please be aware of allowing others to connect with the soil and peace of the garden.
