Kids Recycling Workshop
Event description
Each household in Christchurch has three council bins. But sometimes we don’t know which one to put our rubbish in. This workshop is designed to teach kids about which bin different types of waste go in and what happens to it after it leaves our house. We will discuss what materials things are made of and what sustainable alternatives are available. It will centre around objects and items that kids are familiar with and give them context for bigger ideas like making things, fixing things and extending the life of things.
The purpose of this workshop is to embed environmental concepts beyond just waste, into systems thinking for children. This is done by exploring how we can redesign systems to reduce at the source, build sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11) and create responsible consumers (SDG12).
Targeted at ages 5-10 years, guardians are invited to sit in on the session to learn and continue the conversation with the children after the workshop, but they are not required to. Please feel free to bring along any questions that you have.
