KIN Homeschool - Crawley Term 2
Event description
KIN Homeschool is a space where children are free to explore, create, and play with natural materials in a relaxed, supportive environment. Guided by experienced Nature Playworkers, children are encouraged to follow their curiosity, slow down, and discover what emerges when hands, tools, and imagination meet.
During Term 2, our theme “Tools, Tinkering, and Making” invites children to engage with the process of working with tools. This is not about producing a final object but about the journey of exploration, learning how to use tools safely and noticing how materials respond.
Through these hands-on experiences, children explore concepts in Science - Physical and Chemical Sciences and Science Inquiry Skills. They observe how different materials behave, investigate cause and effect, and build understanding through trial and reflection.
Each session nurtures problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration, aligning with Design and Technologies - Processes and Production Skills. Children might create, deconstruct, or simply tinker, testing ideas, changing course, and value mistakes.
Physical awareness and coordination are woven throughout, connecting with Health and Physical Education - Movement and Physical Activity and Personal, Social and Community Health. Playworkers support children in developing focus, patience, and safe tool use, encouraging self-assessment and confidence through gentle risk-taking.
Language and reflection grow naturally from these moments of discovery, linking to English - Literacy and Language. Children share what they notice, and tell stories about their process, developing vocabulary, communication, and expressive skills.
At the heart of the program is Playwork, which honours children’s play as purposeful and self-directed. Adults hold space rather than direct it, trusting that learning happens when children are given autonomy, trust, and time to explore without a fixed goal.
Rooted in Deep Nature Connection, each session invites relationship with place and material. Children learn not just about tools, but about patience, care, and respect for the living world that offers these materials.
Through this open-ended, process-rich approach, children engage with outcomes across Science, Design & Technologies, English, and Health & PE, while cultivating deep concentration, resilience, and a sense of belonging in nature.
Please note, children must have turned 6 to attend KIN Homeschool. KIN Homeschool is a drop and leave program. Contact us if you have any questions about your child's ability to participate.
