We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we gather, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. This land has carried stories, song, and dance for thousands of years, and we recognize that sovereignty was never ceded.
The ability to celebrate the African diasporic experience here is inseparable from the history, resilience, and ongoing efforts of First Nations peoples. Their continued resistance, cultural expression, and deep connection to Country have laid the groundwork for all who create, move, and gather on these lands. As we come together through music, we honour their enduring legacy and ongoing contributions to art, storytelling, and community. Always was, always will be.
