Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation is proud to invite you to the launch of our Practice Framework, a stage-by-stage guide to the KBHAC healing journey, documenting our trauma-based, survivor-led approach to working with Stolen Generation survivors, their descendants, families and community. It aims to help restore and reconstruct the identity, dignity and integrity of Aboriginal men who were forcibly removed from their families and placed in the Kinchela Boys Home (KBH).

We will discuss how our Practice Framework came to exist, what it means for KBHAC, and what it can bring to healing practice and work with Stolen Generation survivors across Australia.

You'll hear from:

Simon Jordan, Director Aboriginal Partnerships and Projects, ARTD Consulting
Uncle Michael Welsh, Board Member and Tiffany McComsey, CEO KBHAC
Lil Gordon, Head of Aboriginal Affairs, NSW
Former Senator Aden Ridgeway, Partner, Cox Inall Ridgeway (CIR) and Board Member, Healing Foundation
Fiona Cornforth, CEO, Healing Foundation

“The more I talk the stronger I get”

This Practice Framework represents two years of intense collaboration between KBHAC and our evidence-building partner ARTD Consultants. It brings together best practice trauma-informed approaches, is strongly evidence-based and captures the views of Stolen Generation survivors and KBHAC workers – some of whom are descendants and extended family members of Kinchela Boys Home survivors. A key part of the document is the beautiful artworks by Ngarbal/Gomeroi man and artist Jeremy Worral, which brings to life the healing journey for our Uncles and their families.

The KBHAC Uncles have said that this is something that they have been “crying out for”–a document that speaks their language and not the language of bureaucrats or academics.

Please join us to celebrate the launch of this Practice Framework that will shape our casework and peer-based healing programs for Kinchela Boys Home survivors, their descendants, families and community.
