Event description

In honour of this year’s Reconciliation Week, South Eveleigh will be hosting Australia’s first Stolen Generations Mobile Education Centre.

The Stolen Generation Mobile Education Centre concept was developed by the Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation as part of their unique survivor-led approach to governance and healing.

Kinchela Boys Home is one of the most notorious institutions associated with the Stolen Generations. The devastating effects continue to be felt by the descendants and families of the men, who struggle with intergenerational trauma.

The Mobile Education Centre includes an interior exhibition and the back half of the bus has been converted into a cinema that shows a short, animated film. This is a whole of community experiential learning centre.

As people participate in this experience and listen to the stories of the survivors, they understand the resilience and dignity, of survivors, as knowledge holders of our shared histories. In doing so, participants become part of the healing.

Registration for this experience is compulsory.
