Description

Kinda.forward: Small Steps to Sustainability is a free community gathering at the UTAS Inveresk Campus in Launceston where people, ideas and action come together to explore circular living in a way that feels practical, hopeful and genuinely doable.

This is not a lecture. It is a choose-your-own-adventure through making, fixing, learning and connecting, designed for curious beginners and seasoned changemakers alike.

Across the day you can drop into short talks and micro-panels from local voices, get hands-on in workshops and live demonstrations, visit a small marketplace of innovative local brands, bring something broken to the Fix-It Foundry for repair advice, explore the Sprouts Studio with your family, and take one clear next step through the Kinda. Lab Small Steps Action Lab.

Every session ends with a real, local pathway forward, because the aim is not awareness. It is movement.

What to expect on the day:

A welcoming, no-shame space where progress always beats perfection. Families, kids, community groups, students, small businesses and sustainability practitioners are all equally at home here.

Entry is free via Humanitix registration. Walk-ins welcome.

FAQs

  • Do I need to register?

Yes, please grab a free ticket via Humanitix before you come. It helps us plan numbers and means you get any pre-event updates from us. Walk-ins are welcome on the day too, and you can register on arrival via QR code at the door.

  • Is it really free?

Yes, completely free to attend. If you'd like to support the event there will be an optional contribution point on the day, but there is no obligation whatsoever.

  • Is it suitable for kids and families?

Absolutely. Kinda.forward is designed to be welcoming for all ages. The Sprouts Studio is a dedicated hands-on learning and making zone specifically for kids and families, and the whole event has a relaxed, drop-in feel that works well with little ones in tow.

  • Do I need to stay the whole time?

Not at all. The event runs 10am to 4pm and is designed as a choose-your-own-adventure, so come for an hour or stay for the whole thing. There will always be something on.

  • Where do I park/how do I get there?

The event is held at the UTAS Inveresk Campus in Launceston. We strongly encourage walking, cycling, carpooling or catching the bus where you can. It is a small but meaningful way to start the day on the right foot, and very much in the spirit of Kinda.forward. Parking is available on campus if you do need to drive. More detailed access and transport information will be included in your pre-event reminder closer to the date.

  • Is the venue accessible?

Yes. The main event hub is on the ground floor of the UTAS Workshop Building. Some sessions run in the River Rooms at River's Edge Level 3, which has lift access. Accessible toilets, seating throughout, and a quiet low-stimulation space are all available. If you have specific access needs, feel free to reach out to us at hello@wearekinda.com.au before the event.

  • What should I bring?

Just yourself. We encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle as there will be refill points on site. If you want to bring something to fix, even better (see below).

  • Can I bring something to fix?

Yes! The Fix-It Foundry is one of our favourite parts of the day. Bring along something broken, worn out or in need of a little love and our repair and advice team will do their best to help. Think clothing, small appliances, bikes, household items and more.

  • Who is this event for?

Anyone curious about living and working more sustainably, without the guilt or overwhelm. Families, students, community groups, small businesses, sustainability practitioners and complete beginners are all equally welcome. If you have ever thought "I want to do better but don't know where to start," this event is for you.
