Launching - KINDLING THE SPIRIT - "Singing down carbon and singing up spirit."
The Story: Depicts how surviving colonisation for Nyoongar people meant singing the spirit down into the land. Nyoongar elder Uncle Noel Nannup (AO) and leading soil scientist Professor Stephen Joseph (AM) bring together cultural burning practices and biochar production science.
The Reflection: Prototyping a culture where weaving knowledge systems leads to economic empowerment, enterprise opportunities, and negative-emission carbon industries that care for country and community.
Reshowing - MAMMUNG - "Mammung is the Noongar name for the whale: a creature that carries songs and stories through the world's oceans, transmitting them from the Perth Canyon to all the continents of the globe."
The Story: 10,000 years ago, Western Australia experienced rapid sea-level rise. MAMMUNG follows Uncle Noel Nannup in recalling Noongar memories of places now below the sea and the dramatic adaptation endured by Indigenous people.
The Reflection: Can we learn to understand and value this rich body of knowledge as we adapt to a changing climate today? What awaits us if we don't?
