Kinship Alliance Australia: Adelaide Stakeholders Meeting
Description
Kinship Alliance Australia is new national initiative with the aim of achieving recognition and support for kinship families with a particular focus on informal kinship care.
This initiative was established in 2023 through a partnership between Dr Meredith Kiraly, an Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne and a recognised expert on the topic, and Mike Feszczak, CEO Grandcarers SA.
Kinship Alliance Australia is a national network of kinship care advocacy groups and organisations whose delegations meet regularly with the Federal Parliamentary Friends of Grandparent and Kinship Carers to discuss proposals for policy change to improve the life circumstances of kinship care families.
On 24 June we will engage with stakeholders and decision makers in Adelaide where we will hear from prominent advocates Kate Bundle LLB and Jo Sadler. This will be followed by similar workshops in Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Kate is the former CEO of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren in New Zealand and was the driving force in getting the New Zealand Government to introduce an Unsupported Child Benefit and Jo is the CEO of Wanslea in WA, who manage the annual state payment to unsupported carer grandparents raising their grandchildren.
