Kinship Kinglake Natural Building Workshop — Sculpting with Hempcrete

Hempcrete is an eco-friendly composite building material made from the inner woody core of the hemp plant (hemp hurds), a lime-based binder, and water. Hempcrete is non-toxic, versatile, lightweight, insulating, and mould, fire and infestation-resistant. 

The material's workability allows for the creation of various forms, from functional pieces like planters to abstract art. Its lightweight nature and ease of shaping make it suitable for both large-scale installations and smaller, intricate designs.

If you’re interested in learning more about hempcrete, and how to create unique and beautiful sculptural forms inspired by nature, then this two day Hempcrete Sculpting workshop is for you.

Join Natural Building Architect and Visual Artist, Angel Benson, and Natural Builder and Sculptural Architect, Paul Bongiorno, for this unique hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to:

• shape chicken wire into sculptural forms,
• strengthen the underlying structure,
• prepare and mix hempcrete, 
• apply and shape hempcrete, 
• prepare hempcrete for renders,
• add innovations and flourishes, and
• work productively as a team with shared purpose.

Join us for a weekend at Victoria's first Earthship in beautiful Kinglake Victoria and experience the festival atmosphere of joyful, creative and collaborative home building.

Sleep in the solar passive ecologically designed fire-resilient Earthship, share delicious home-cooked meals and enjoy the warmth of good company around the fire-pit under the Milky Way.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS

While you're in Kingslake, you are also free to take the opportunity to explore the mountain hinterlands, wet scherophyll rainforest, majestic waterfalls, extensive water catchments, abundant wild animals and birdlife, surreal sunsets and spectacular views of the city skyline.

WORKSHOP DATES & TIMES

Our Natural Building Workshops run over two days on weekends with sleepover at Kinship Kinglake Earthship on the Saturday night (accommodation included).

The Hempcrete Sculpting workshop are being offered on the following dates and times:

• Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 February, 10am-4:30pm

• Saturday 15 & Sunday 16 March, 10am-4:30pm
  

Please note: If you are unable to make it for both days, you are welcome to join us for one day over the weekend.

COST

$125-$75 for two days (inc. overnight accommodation)

$70-$40 for one day
