Description

If you're interested in developing practical knowledge and skills in ecological building techniques, or exploring alternatives for building an affordable home based on permaculture and biotecture (Earthship) design principles, then our two day Natural Building Workshop is for you.

At this practical hands-on workshop you will learn how to:

evaluate earth components
mix, stomp and fashion cob
mix and apply natural renders
construct and finish cob walls
add innovations and flourishes
work productively as a team with shared purpose
rock wall (retaining wall) building
greenhouse design and building

Join us for a weekend at Victoria's first Earthship in beautiful Kinglake Victoria and experience the festival atmosphere of joyful, creative and collaborative home building.

Sleep in the solar passive ecologically designed fire-resilient Earthship, share delicious home-cooked meals and enjoy the warmth of good company around the fire-pit under the Milky Way.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS

While you're in Kingslake, you are also free to take the opportunity to explore the mountain hinterlands, wet scherophyll rainforest, majestic waterfalls, extensive water catchments, abundant wild animals and birdlife, surreal sunsets and spectacular views of the city skyline.

WORKSHOP DATES & TIMES

Our Natural Building Workshops run over two days on weekends with sleepover at Kinship Kinglake Earthship on the Saturday night (accommodation included).

Please note: If you are unable to make it for both days, you are welcome to join us for one day over the weekend.

COST

$150-$75 for two days (inc. overnight accommodation)

Laura Marini is a natural building architect specialising in bio-ecological architecture.

A passionate advocate for sustainable living and environmentally-friendly building practices, she is on a mission to prove that eco-conscious design can be beautiful, functional, and affordable.

Laura has a Master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Venice, studying Bioecological Architecture with ANAB-IBN. She started learning about Earth building technologies in Italy and in India at the Auroville Earth Building Institute in 2005.

Moving to Melbourne with her family in 2017, Laura discovered Earthships and the different challenges of Australian Country, first of all, fire. This led to the collaboration with Daryl Taylor, owner/builder of Kinship Kinglake Earthship, having run dozens of hands-on natural building workshops with hundreds of people since 2019 at this unique eco-resilient, fire resistant, community development initiative.

Laura is interested in Community projects and believes that building with Earth is the best for everybody but especially for communities and has innumerable advantages for the environment and humans, for their mind and body: it is therapeutic, grounding, and joyful. Laura wants to spread that information wide and large, starting with kids, adults of the future.

Marini operates her own design practice, which focuses on creating beautiful, functional, and sustainable homes and buildings using natural materials.

She is also an educator who hosts children’s workshops about the fun of working with earth as a building material. These workshops teach kids about the importance of sustainable living and encourage them to think creatively about how they can incorporate eco-friendly practices into their daily lives.

Her work wants to showcase the beauty, functionality, and affordability of eco-conscious design, and serves as a reminder that we can all make a positive impact on the environment, one mud brick at a time.
