Knee Differential Diagnosis with Associate Clinical Professor Jane Rooney
Description
Knee pain is one of the most common presentations you'll see in the clinic and one of the easiest to get wrong. Anterior knee pain alone can be patellofemoral, tendinopathy, fat pad, referred from the hip, or something you don't want to miss entirely. So how do you tell them apart when the history is vague and the tests all seem to hurt?
Join MUPSS for a hands-on MOSS workshop with Associate Professor Jane Rooney, Specialist Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist (as awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists in 2009) and APA Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist at Prahran Sports Medicine. Jane is one of a small number of Australian physiotherapists to hold the profession's highest clinical qualification, and is an examiner for the Australian College of Physiotherapists. She was Serena Williams' physiotherapist across five Australian Open seasons and worked with Naomi Osaka in 2018, is a 2016 Churchill Fellow who investigated international ACL injury management, and helped launch the GLA:D program in Australia. She also holds academic appointments at Swinburne, Melbourne and La Trobe.
What we'll cover:
Structuring a subjective history that actually narrows the differential
Clustering objective tests instead of relying on any single special test
Working through common presentations: patellofemoral pain, ligamentous and meniscal injury, tendinopathy, referred pain, early knee OA
Red flags and when to refer on
Live case-based reasoning, with plenty of time for questions
Who it's for: All year levels welcome. Whether you're heading into your first musculoskeletal placement or sharpening up before exams, you'll leave with a reasoning process you can use on Monday.
