    Event description

Koala habitat restoration - a field day specifically for bush regenerators working in the Northern Rivers.

Restoration practitioners in the Northern Rivers are invited to join a professional field day in an iconic Tweed Coast koala habitat restoration site. Hear about the successes and challenges of different planting and maintenance techniques on a challenging site over the last 20 years including the significant role that fire has played. The day provides a rare opportunity for bush regenerators to delve deeper into the considerations for planning restoration works in the current climate, selecting reference communities, and setting sites up to become complex and resilient koala habitat.

Over many years much has been trialled and learnt. The current climate has provided challenges but also success. Hear what Council looks for in selection of contractors to manage long term sites. The day will conclude with a visit to one of the most amazing wetland regeneration areas now managed for koala habitat. Light lunch provided.

Hosted by Tweed Shire Council and Bushland Restoration Services.

Koala Conversations: Two weeks of ideas, dialogue, and action is a series of koala-focused events including workshops, tree plantings, field days and other relevant activities that will be delivered across the Northern Rivers in May 2024.
